ABOUT THE SCHOOL
SBSK is a school with proven results.

Sergei Bobrov Sports School (SBSK) is a licensed private sports school in Tallinn with a long history and a high level of professional training.

Founded in 2010 on the premises of the SBSK Draakon sports club, which has been operating since 1996, the school combines tradition, discipline, and modern teaching methods.

Today, SBSK has over 100 students in various age groups, ranging from 5 to 19 years old.

The school specializes in three key areas:

  • Aikigoshinkan—the art of self-defense and inner balance
  • Sport Chanbara—modern Japanese fencing
  • Sport fencing (epee and sabre)—Olympic disciplines

SBSK students regularly represent the school in national and international competitions, becoming champions and medalists, and serving on Estonian national teams.

All curricula are officially accredited by the Estonian Ministry of Education, and the coaching staff holds certified qualifications from the Estonian Olympic Committee (EOK).

We view sport as a tool for personal development.

At SBSK, special attention is paid to discipline, respect, responsibility, and self-confidence—qualities that last long beyond the gym.

Sport fencing is an Olympic sport that develops reaction speed, coordination, strategic thinking, and discipline.
At SBSK, training is based on a combination of classical fencing and modern athlete training methods.

Classes are suitable for both those taking their first steps in the sport and students aiming to compete at the national and international level.

Training areas:
Epée fencing (Épée) — a discipline that develops precision, endurance, and tactical thinking
— Sabre fencing (Sabre) — a dynamic format with an emphasis on speed, reaction, and attacking technique

Fencing develops:
  • reaction speed and concentration
  • tactical and strategic thinking
  • physical endurance and coordination
  • discipline and self-control
  • self-confidence and a competitive spirit

Training is conducted using modern protective equipment and safe sporting weapons. SBSK students regularly participate in competitions and demonstrate consistent results.
Aikigoshinkan
For children aged 7 and up, teenagers, and adults

Aikigoshinkan is a self-defense system based on the principles of Aiki and on years of experience studying biomechanics and human psychology in martial arts.

The school's curriculum began to be developed in 2010 and continues to be refined based on analysis of practical work in teaching various age groups.
The program is aimed not only at mastering practical self-defense skills and strengthening overall physical fitness, but also at developing inner confidence, self-control, and improving moral and volitional qualities.

The program covers:
— the basics of acrobatics and safe falls
— movement and coordination techniques
— releasing holds and working with balance
— pain control, pins, and defense against strikes
— self-defense against knives and sticks
— tactics against multiple attackers
— working with traditional weapons
— recovery and relaxation techniques

Aikigoshinkan in SBSK is more than just a training session. It is systemic personal development through movement, discipline, and awareness.
Sport Chanbara
An optional course at SBSK since 2020.

For fencing and Aikigoshinkan students.

This is a modern Japanese martial art based on fencing with traditional weapons and their safe sport counterparts. This course combines the philosophy of Goshindo—the "path of self-preservation"—with the centuries-old traditions of samurai culture and practices of Eastern and Western schools.

Training develops concentration, precision, distance control, and confidence in combat, while developing a deep understanding of weapons use in a safe and structured manner.

The training covers:
  • Iaido—the art of instantly drawing a sword and controlling movement
  • Tameshigiri—the technique of precise cutting, developing concentration and strength
  • Kihon-dosa—basic striking and movement techniques
  • Kodachi Goshindo kata—paired work and the basics of self-defense with short weapons
  • Sports combat—more than 10 weapon categories (sword, dagger, stick, spear, etc.)
  • Fundamentals of refereeing and rules for competitive combat

Sport Chanbara complements basic sports training, expanding students' technical and tactical arsenal.
